Intraocular melanoma is the most common form of eye cancer in adults. It is highly curable, and vision in the eye can be saved in some tumors which are small and localized to the eye.

How is intraocular melanoma treated?

The treatment of intraocular melanoma depends on the size and location of the tumor, the amount of damage that has occurred to the eye, the age of the patient, and whether the tumor has grown during a period when it was being closely watched. If the tumor extends beyond the white of the eye, radical surgery may be needed to remove the eye, the fat, and the muscle surrounding it.
