Can injury, bumps or bites produce breast tumors?
No. However injury to the breast can produce blackand-
blue areas on the skin or clots within its substance.
In unusual instances any injury ("contusion" is the medical term) to breast fat can bruise it sufficiently so
that it forms a hard lump that can simulate a tumor.
This is termed fat necrosis, meaning death or loss of
vitality of the fat. Sometimes this diagnosis can be made
only by biopsy. It is a very happy surgeon who finds
this when the examination had suggested the possibility
of a cancer.
